What is an access control system?

An access control system automates the control of who has access to your premises, equipment, and sensitive areas. They also assist in workplace emergency situations by helping to accurately account for all personnel and visitors currently on-site. Example: A typical example of an access control system is one which replaces traditional door keys with an electronic lock attached to a keypad or reader. A card or fob is used by the operator to trigger the door lock and gain access. A centralised administration system allows the owner to assign specific door access to each card or fob. The administration system retains a log of each time a card or fob is used to open a door.
